Tool/software: Code Composer Studio
We have a board that we have designed and built 10 copies of. 6 work perfectly, 4 do not allow the XDS110 emulator to connect to them. Below is the relevant portion of our schematic.
VSYS is 3.4 volts. When we try to connect with CCS 10, we get the error...
CS_DAP_0: Error connecting to the target: (Error -261 @ 0x0) Invalid response was received from the XDS110. (Emulation package 9.2.0.00002)
On the board that get this error I have noted that VCORE measures 0.6 V. We have examined all the solder connections for the CPU and components and can't find any flaws. Is it likely that the CPU is dead? That seems unlikely for 40% of our boards. Has anyone seen similar problems? Should be be replacing the CPUs?
Hi Mike,
There are couple of earlier e2e threads that indicate that this error could be due to a USB port problem.

Is that a possibility here?

Ran through all the scenarios from the links you provided and the links they provided. No luck.
Swapped USB ports and cables. No luck.
My gut tells me it has something to do with the low voltage (0.6 V) on VCORE. Any ideas what could cause that? All the power pins appear to have the right voltages.
Any ideas of where to look would be appreciated.
Hi Mike,
The circuit looks similar to the recommended one from the Launchpad and the values are as suggested by the datasheet. You also point out that it does work correctly on 6 of the 10 boards.
Another e2e thread https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/t/498002 suggested there could be a "dry solder problem on board for one of the JTAG pins". Do you want to check that?
