I am a student at the University of Arkansas and I am trying to use the MSP-FET with Code Composer Studio to program and debug on our target board. Our target board connects to the FET with a 14-pin JTAG header and is powered with an external power supply. Our code compiles, but when we try to debug, we receive the error "Error connecting to the target: unknown device". We have made the following changes to attempt to get the connection to work.
-We have checked for updates in the help menu and installed the latest updates.
-We previously had the VCC TOOL (pin 2 on JTAG header) connected to the Vcc of the MCU. We changed this connection with a jump wire so that VCC TARGET (pin 4 on JTAG header) connects to Vcc of the MCU.
-We uninstalled the MSP and FET drivers on the computer, restarted the computer and reinstalled the drivers.
-We have read over the connection diagram in the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide and verified that our JTAG header connection is correct.
We suspect that there could be an issue with how CCS is configured, but we don't know for sure. We have looked for solutions in the forums to no avail. I hope there is something that we are overlooking that makes the solution simple.
Hi,
Possible reasons: - Jumpers connected well or not, the capacitors on JTAG signals matching the datasheet or not, device damage or not, or debugger com port showed correctly.
Could you check following E2E posts and see if they are helpful?
You can also search the "Error connecting to the target: unknown device" in E2E search box to check more posts.
Thanks,
Lixin
We believe that our firmware for the MSP-FET is up to date, but we made some mistakes making the proper connections on page 20 of the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide. Namely, we are missing C1, C2, and R1. We plan on adding these components and trying again.
