A customer reported the random boot failure issue after they changed PMIC and Storage devices as below.

* PMIC : TPS65217C -> TPS65218D0PHPT

* SD/MMC : eMMC 4GB -> SD card

* RAM : DDR3 used the same as before

Symptoms 1 : The phenomenon that sometimes outputs a message such as an attachment during booting and the system becomes hanged.

Symptoms 2 : Rebooting occurs while compiling applications operated by the system (gcc)

-> At this time, the MCU reboots and resets it to DDR3.

-> MCU's own power supply and control pins are in normal condition. (They do not move under normal operating conditions

Symptoms 3 : Occasionally reboot occurs after normal booting.

-> Even if they check the power and clock, nothing unusual has been confirmed even during the above phenomenon.
Please advise me on which direction they should set the debug point.

As an additional log, it shows watchdog reset could be observed during reboot as below.

CPU : AM335X-GP rev 2.1

Yes, they have built the 4GB-eMMC based CPU board along with TPS65217 following BBB board design.

They suspect this issue comes with TPS65218D0 new PMIC^^ without Driver modifications appropriately.

They firstly wanted to know why the problematic log message comes out from their new PCB even it's Debian Release from BBB community.

If the bootloader and Kernel driver are same with PSDK Linux. Please check why the problematic log is shown above. Indicate the problamtic H/W area through Log review as Customer wanted.^^

I assume customer has performed the PMIC related tests on the new boards and is Ok.

TPS65218D0 new PMIC - Does customer have concern on the hardware or this issue is seen to be more on the driver side?

It is believed that the client did not conduct sufficient testing of the new PMIC
I am asking if the driver modification is not applied because a log that did not occur when using TPS65217.

I asked customer to measure the power rail. But they said the pwer rail is ok with expected voltage.

Let me ask them to capture various power rails again including the expectaton for the PMIC GPIO1/2/3..

Hi Jack,

Please see my comments below in regards to schematic review for PMIC portion of design. In general it mostly looks correct.

In TI reference design VDD_MPU connected to DCDC2 and VDD_CORE is connected to DCDC1, these rails are flipped in the customer schematic. This may be intentional, but I wanted to point out to have customer verify.
GPO2 pin looks to be missing a connection to 3.3V pullup with a 100kohm resistor
DC34_SEL pin resistor is different than reference design. Is DCDC3 = 1.5V correct configuration? In reference design DCDC3 is set to 1.35V.
