Hello,
We are planning to use 3 x (x16) memory devices in our design (32bits +4ECC bits).
Is there any specific requirement for ECC memory physical placement on a PCB please (by means ordering)?
Is it OK to place ECC memory chip on a PCB as the firs device or as the last device on a fly by lines?
(I am not able to find any information about ECC memory device physical placement constrains (by means ordering) in a datasheet.)
Thank you.
Regards
Juraj
Hi Juraj,
You can also look at section 1.6 of 66AK2Gx BGA Escape Routing Stackup (Rev. A). It discusses the placement of the parts relative to the order the bytes appear in the BGA pattern. You don't want to have the ECC in the center of the three parts since that would force you to cross those bits over bytes 3 and 2. The optimal placement from left to right would be Part 1 ECC, Part 2 Byte 3 & 2, Part 3 Byte 1 & 0.
